How does stacking disc springs work?

Disc springs are useful to achieve the right forces in spaces. To achieve these forces, some disc springs need to be stacked. Installing disc springs can be done in four ways.

The first way to place a disc spring is to place a single disc spring. Placing a single disc spring is usually done with fasteners or with very heavy disc springs.

The second way, is to put several disc springs of the same kind on top of one another. This is seen on the most left stacking methode. When stacking disc springs on top of one another, the space of indentation is equal to one disc spring. The force that a series of disc springs stacked on top of one another can deliver is equal to N x A where the N stands for the force in Newton and the A is the number of disc springs.

The third way is to put the disc springs in series. In series stacking, disc springs are placed alternately with the bases above and below. This is shown in the centered picture above. When series stacking disc springs, the space of indentation is equal to the number of disc springs in free length. The forces of disc springs stacked in series is equal to the force of one disc spring. The calculation for series disc springs is Ho x A.

The fourth way is series in parallel. When parallel stacking disc springs, several disc springs are placed on top of one another on which the same series with the legs are placed the other way. Here the forces and the space of compression are equal to the formulas above, per set of disc springs.
